The Festival.

The department was created in 1961 under the name of Department of Kribi, it takes the name of Department of the Ocean in 1986. Kribi is an urban community of Cameroon, capital of the Ocean Department in the South Region. It comprises 9 administrative units under the authority of the prefect including: Kribi 1st, Kribi 2nd, Lokounge, Bipindi, Lolodorf, Mvengue, Niete, AkomII and Campo. The department of the ocean covers an overall area of 11280 KM2 with a population of about 253855 inhabitants. It is an important seaside resort known for its white sand beaches; its deep water port; its gas power plant. Among these tourist sites we can count some of them: The fishing village of Londji, a bay north of Kribi with a high ecological value due to the presence of mangroves and its proximity to the mouths of the Nyong and Lokoundjé rivers; the Lobe River and its waterfalls; the beaches of Grand Batanga; the ecotourism site of Ebodjé, a marine turtle monitoring station; the Campo-Ma’an National Park and the areas inhabited by the Bagyeli-Bakola pygmies along the Bipindi-Lolodorf roads, notably the Bidjouka hill. It is a strategic point for maritime traffic in the Gulf of Guinea and the terminus of the pipeline carrying crude oil from the oil fields of the Doba region in southwestern Chad.
